The House of Representatives on Tuesday warned the Federal Government against tampering with the existing “arrangements” for the March 28 elections, particularly the removal of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
The House noted that changing the election plans either by further extending the dates or removing Jega would only lead to a magnitude of violence, worse than what was witnessed after the 2011 polls.
In a resolution in Abuja, the House drew the attention of the political class, the Federal Government, state governments and security agencies to warnings of unavoidable violence already issued by eminent Nigerians and groups, both on the international and local scenes.
The resolution was taken following a motion moved by the Chairman, House Committee on Justice, Ali Ahmad.

A motorist, Bambi Sangotikun, said low patronage from commuters due to increase in pump price of petrol had forced him to park his vehicle till the situation was sorted.
“Even me, I can’t pay N50 from here to barrack or N70 from Customs to Kara area, but what can we do when filling stations are selling at N120 per litre.
“People prefer to trek or even stay at home than paying high transport fare.
“It is obvious that the situation is forcing us out of jobs; we appeal to the appropriate authorities to see to it; we can’t do without fuel in Nigeria,” he said.
15 parties, five presidential candidates may boycott polls
Fifteen political parties and five presidential aspirants have threatened to pull out of the forthcoming general elections scheduled for March 28 and April 11 over the use of card reader device.
The Spokesperson for the group and National Chairman, Advanced Congress of Democrats, Dr. Breakforth Onwubuya, at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja, said the concept of using card readers for the coming elections, as being planned by Independent National Electoral Commission, “has a lot of implications which may negatively impact on the conduct of a credible, free and fair elections.”
He said, “The first drawback is that this device is relatively a new technology that has not been tested or tried in a kind of mock election or previous formal elections prior to this time. This would have enabled the nation and the electoral umpire itself to properly ascertain its workability and efficiency in the conduct of the real general elections.

Boko Haram Beheading Video: ISIS-Style Killing Of Accused Spies Released By Nigeria Militants
U.S. officials do not think a new video by Nigeria’s Boko Haram militants is evidence of growing ties with the Islamic State, despite striking similarities with previous Islamic State productions.
“It’s doubtful that there’s a deep operational partnership," a U.S. official told VOA on condition of anonymity. “Aside from the propaganda, Boko Haram’s really focused on the situation there [in Nigeria].”
The Boko Haram video released online Monday, entitled "Harvest of Spies," shows the beheading of two alleged spies. Both are forced to kneel on the ground while masked militants with long knives stand behind them.

Outrage over alleged plot to freeze APC leaders’ accounts
There was outrage on Sunday over an alleged plot by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party to freeze the bank accounts of All Progressives Congress leaders.
The APC had on Saturday alleged that the President planned to freeze the accounts of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as part of efforts to cripple the campaigns of its presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Prominent Nigeria, including some Senior Advocates of Nigeria, in separate interviews with The PUNCH on Sunday, condemned the alleged plot.
The lawyers – Emeka Ngige, Yusuf Ali and Mahmud Magaji – said if the allegation was true, it would send a bad signal to the international community about the nation’s commitment to deepening democracy.
Ngige said the action could spell doom for the nation and might actualise the prediction that Nigeria was already on the path of disintegration.
