It’s Official: Facebook is Working on a Dislike Button
In today’s Q&A session at Facebook Headquarters, Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook is working on a Dislike button and it’ll be tested soon. |
“I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it,” he said. It should be noted that in the past, Mark has dismissed the idea by calling it too negative.
He said that people have been asking for the Dislike button on Facebook for many years and it’s the time to release this feature. He hoped that the button won’t be used for showing negative emotions, instead it will be used for expressing empathy.
Zuckerberg said that he didn’t implement the idea earlier as he didn’t want Facebook to develop a Reddit-style system of downvoting and upvoting. “What they really want is the ability to express empathy. Not every moment is a good moment,” Zuckerberg said.
Facebook launched the like button long back in 2009.
Currently, Facebook is working on the Dislike button and it’ll be starting the testing soon.

Gandhi, Mandela cast aside as Pune shatters African students’ dreams
Simon Kuany Kirr (above), president of the cross-campus International Student Council, drew Rajnath Singh’s (left), attention to the discrimination African students face in the city. . PIC: DHANANJAY HELWADE
African students voicing their pain about the apartheid they face in the city caught the Union home minister completely off-guard
While the city prides itself as the Oxford of the East, its tryst with crimes committed by foreign nationals, particularly those from Africa or the Gulf countries, seems to have gotten the better of it. This was evidenced when a student from Africa stumped the visiting Union home minister, Rajnath Singh, with his complaint of the hostile attitude he and others from that continent have to brave daily while studying here.
"We have been facing discrimination from all quarters in India, we are taunted for our looks and the colour of our skin. We face it not just on campus but also at most other public places," Simon Kuany Kirr, president of the cross-campus International Student Council, told the minister, just as the latter completed his Teacher's Day address at the Symbiosis International University, Lavale, claiming that India is the only country that looks upon the entire world as one big family.

Welcome to 2014—you’ve been hacked.
Well, maybe you haven’t been yet. There are some people who have managed to avoid having one of their online accounts compromised, but among regular Internet users, those people may be closer to the exception than the rule.
Rarely a week goes by without news of an organization having its customer or employee data compromised—either through a malicious attack, accidental disclosure, or new vulnerability found in a security protocol. Even the government database containing information on all federal employees was recently compromised by Chinese hackers. Virtually no one is truly immune.
According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, there have been at least 4,643 recorded data breaches since 2005, which have exposed over 633 million individual user records in the United States alone. Other reports have noted that 13 million U.S. consumers were victims of identity theft in in 2013, with the majority of those incidents stemming from data breaches. The U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics found that, the previous year, American identity theft victims suffered over $24.7 billion in losses—a number higher than burglary or auto theft.
